Lark Pilinsky

Lark Larisa Pilinsky โ€” Artist, Curator, Poet & Journalist

Artist Biography

Born in the remote mountains of central Asia, Lark Pilinsky โ€” known professionally as simply Lark โ€” grew up immersed in the raw, untamed beauty of the natural world. That formative landscape never left her. Today, it pulses through every canvas she creates, channeling what she describes as the healing vibrations of nature into a distinctive visual language rooted in meditation, intuition, and an unshakeable connection to the living earth. Lark's formal artistic identity is built on a rare and seamless fusion of classical and contemporary traditions. Her paintings are immediately recognizable โ€” bold, gestural brushstrokes move with the confidence of deep practice, while vibrant, luminous color palettes evoke both the spiritual and the sensory. Whether exploring vast landscapes, quiet scenes of everyday life, or the nuanced terrain of figurative work, her compositions carry an inner stillness that invites the viewer to slow down and feel. From the very beginning of her career, Lark's work commanded serious attention. Art jurors and tastemakers took notice early, including LA Weekly critic Peter Frank, Sweeney Art Gallery director Tyler Stallings, Santa Monica Museum of Art director Lisa Melandri, and MOCA curator Alma Ruiz โ€” a remarkable roster of recognition that speaks to both the technical strength and the emotional resonance of her art. Her award-winning works have since been featured in prestigious exhibitions and major art catalogs, and have found their way into private collections across the globe โ€” France, Italy, Germany, Japan, Russia, Armenia, Canada, Sweden, and beyond. But Lark's contribution to the art world extends well beyond her own studio practice. Since 1985, she has been a tireless force within the broader arts community โ€” as a curator, advocate, educator, and connector of creative people. As President and founder of LarkGallery, she has dedicated decades to promoting both emerging and established artists, championing their work with the same passion she brings to her own.

Critical Acclaim

"I am rarely a 'fan' of any artist, but LARK aka Larisa Pilinsky is an exceptional phenomenon. Besides her brilliant sense of composition, she is the ultimate 'Green Artist' or maybe she is also the grand 'love child' of Kandinsky and Schwitters, but regardless I find Lark's talent is built from the 'shoulders' of masters of 20th century."
Tony Clark
Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, American Association Of Museum Directors Board Member
"Lark's art usually focused on landscape subjects โ€“ albeit ones that often disappear into a painterly scumble... Lark describes those subjects with sweeping, almost sculpted brushstrokes and clots of paint, as well as a glowing palette that descends from the French Impressionists... and a granular embrace of nature โ€“ a comprehension of space itself as part of the natural order."
Peter Frank
Art Critic
